FRP All Staff Retreat
Our Annual Staff Retreat was a Hit!! A Construction Site Themed and decorated community room was filled with hardhats and yellow vests. We came together to discuss “Building a Foundation for the Future”. We spent the day hearing our Executive Director share what it takes to build a solid foundation for our organization, in addition to tons of fun and laughter that filled our day! Some of the highlights of the day were the activities we had planned for our staff: Build me up, Buttercup: a chance for staff to share what they like/love about each other. Soundtrack of My Life: each staff submitted a song that best describes their lives. What fun! The best activity of the day was seeing teams come together to build a house out of random objects! We have some creative folks on our staff! Jumbo Jenga and Connect Four kept us entertained while we enjoyed a delicious Taco Bar for lunch, outside in our backyard. Here’s to another successful year at FRP!

Staff Training and Retreats
September has kept our staff busy! We’ve conducted trainings and retreats for our staff’s professional development here at FRP. Dr. Gainers conducted a presentation entitled, “The Language of Recovery: Language Matters”-Understanding how the language we use impacts our community. The training session helped our staff compare common terminology and assess which terms should be used or avoided, and how to integrate person-first, non-stigmatizing language into everyday practice.

On Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the historic Druid Hill Park was the 14th Annual Recovery Walk in honor of National Recovery Month, where hundreds of members of Baltimore’s recovery community came to raise awareness about the stigma associated with drug addiction and recovery. The Family Recovery Program, Inc. showed up for the cause! Our staff greeted and shared with persons that approached the FRP table information that would help them and/or others that they knew would benefit from our program. Major shoutout to our Community Engagement Specialist, Tiffinee Scott for her diligence in the recovery community. Her work makes the difference in the lives of our families and families around Baltimore City.

The last event of the day was one that was filled with laughter, tears and memories of loved ones that we have lost here at The Family Recovery Program, Inc. Although the weather altered our plans to reveal our Remembrance Garden to our guests, we had a tree to put on display and beautiful rocks with the names of our former FRP Employees and clients, made by Sage Parent, Stephanie Baird. Sage Case Manager, Tracie Wyman served as the Mistress of Ceremonies, and we had several FRP Parents and former staff members to share their fondest memories of our loved ones. The highlight of the ceremony was having the daughters of Doreen Cooke and Reginald Phillips to accept citations from Mayor Brandon Smith and the City of Baltimore. There was not a dry eye in the room when they both stood to speak, but in FRP fashion, we found many moments to share in laughter when reminiscing about our friends.
The Family Recovery Program, Inc. remembers the Memory of:
Reginald Phillips
Doreen Cooke
Andre Kennedy
Chelsea Sadecki

“Because of You” Donor Appreciation Luncheon
Here at FRP, we are tremendously blessed by the in-kind donations and contributions of many across this city, state, and even around the world. We wanted to take time to show our heartfelt gratitude to persons that are donors and supporters of FRP. There were over 20 awardees and Dr. Gainers stood to present each one with a beautiful plaque or certificate for their dedication and commitment to our organization. And to make this day as special as we hoped it would be, we were honored by the presence of Maryland State Senator Cory V. McCray-45th District, Baltimore City. Our guests enjoyed a fabulous lunched prepared by FRP Security Monitor, Ms. Cheryl Ross, and touching speeches given by a few of our Sage Center Parents. There are not enough words that will express how grateful we our to our supporters. It is because of the generous donations that we receive that we can serve the families that choose to go down the road to recovery.
